5 Tips on Picking a New HDTV Screen

5 Tips on Picking a New HDTV Screen

It can be quite daunting when faced with the vast array of HD ready screens available knowing which one is right for you. Use our handy tips and before you know it, you’ll have chosen a screen that’s ideal.

1. Budget

Before you even begin your search, ensure you have a realistic budget. This is just commonsense and keeps what you look at relevant. There’s no point getting carried away with the technological wonders available only to realize that you simply can’t afford what you see.

2. Know Your TVs

HDTV screens come in two sorts – LCD and plasma. Plasma screens are superb for watching HDTV. Also termed plasma display panels (PDPs), this kind of screen is made up of thousands of minuscule cells containing gases which are electrically illuminated. Plasma screens give a more vivid image, though it must be said, LCDs are hot on the plasma’s tail.

3. How Big?

HDTV screens are roughly one third wider than standard television screens. They are rectangular in shape with an aspect ratio of 16:9 to sustain widescreen format, compared with the 4:3 aspect ratio found on conventional analog screens.

Size of screen varies between around 42 inches to upwards of 65 inches. When choosing the size remember to bear in mind the following:

1. The proportions of the room your screen will sit in
2. The top price you’re willing to pay (increasing the size will do the same for the price)
3. the distance between your sofa and the screen

It might seem like bigger is better, but if it’s too large you might be in for some uncomfortable watching…

4. Is it HD ready?

The majority of screens on the market these days are HD ready. However, it is always worth double-checking. If a screen is low-priced, it’s quite likely that it isn’t HD ready.

5. Guarantee Check
Make sure the guarantee has everything in it that you require. In general, it’s worth extending it to save money in the long run to ensure you’re covered just in case something ends up breaking.
