Hitachi 42PD8700 42″

This 1024 x 1080 resolution model from Hitachi is great value for money. The screen provides stunning, vibrant colour and contrast. There are other models on the market for a similar price, but the Hitachi 42PD8700 takes the biscuit for picture quality.

One small drawback is that the connections face downwards instead of outwards. This can be slightly awkward, but once you’ve completed the set-up it won’t be a problem. The two SCART sockets are RGB enabled, but not capable of S-Video to SCART. The bass is good quality for such a thin screen but it does tend to overpower the mids and highs. This can be solved by using a surround sound system.

Hitachi’s design for this model is slightly retro, but this isn’t a drawback as the clean lines would look fantastic in any room. The classic design makes a nice change. The silver grill and trim edging make it a bit different from the norm.
