Samsung LE19R86 Review
This 19” Samsung is the smallest in the HD ready range offered by Samsung and it’s a good choice if you are looking for a second TV or something for a living room that’s a tight squeeze.
Looks wise the Samsung LE19R86 would fit into the most exclusive apartments. An LCD widescreen, the gloss finish gives it a sleek look and the rounded undercarriage is a lovely design element that makes the Samsung range stand out from many other brands.
At this size you won’t get the full HD experience if you hook up to blu-ray or other HD sources, because at this size the resolution isn’t there, but the picture quality is far better than a regular TV with noticeably more definition.
It handles motion well and the colour depth is good, and gives a vibrant image. There is not so much definition in the darker tones but again, in a screen this size at this price, you can’t really expect much better than what Samsung are giving. It also has Samsung’s ‘gaming mode’ which ups the frame rate to handle motion graphics better when gaming. As well as two Scart sockets, composite, component and S-video connections, it also has a HDMI connection for the full HD quality that you get from Blu-ray or a Playstation 3.
The sound is fine, and the speakers are ‘hidden’ so they don’t interfere with the sleek look. As always with flatscreens in the smaller sizes you will find the bass a bit lacking but this is easily fix by amplifying the sound using separate speakers.
